Taste Of Fernie

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

If you have never been to the taste of Fernie before make sure to mark your calender for next year!! Locals and tourists enjoyed a fanfare of amazing food samplers from the best restaurants and bars in town, an array of live entertainment, creative and fun craft stations for the children, a beer and wine garden & this event is also the last chance for locals to utilize the Fernie mountain market ….check out the picture below of the gigantic pumpkin & sunflower, from the biggest and best locally grown produce competition. I would have to say that this is the show and shine of Fernie. This year even the shops joined in with tents of sale items displayed on the side walks.

Bear Aware open house with Charlie Russell

Monday, September 14th, 2009

What a great way to spend a Saturday for the whole family. Kathy & Sarah provided bear cake, bear cookies and bear activities for the little ones during the day. With Bear paw molding being #1 hit. Charlie Russell made an appearance all afternoon /evening to show his movie Edge of Eden and host a personal slide show of his amazing experiences with bears. People also had the opportunity to chat with Charlie on a one to one basis and ask questions.

Charlie Russell spent numerous years in Russia as an effort to better understand human/ bear interaction as well as help the plight of bears. He was in a secluded area of Russia that enabled him to raise several bear cubs …Edge of Eden a movie well worth watching.

The demolition derby held this September long weekend was exciting! Over 3,000 spectators sporting fantastic enthusiasm and creative attire enjoyed watching 51 drivers basically smash, crash & plough into each other in the rodeo grounds aka smash down palace. This is a great fundraiser that the Fernie Lions have organized for local charities. I’m already thinking about a suitable outfit for next year!

Project Nine Race

Monday, September 14th, 2009

43 contestants showed up to compete in the project nine race this year (twice as many competitors as last year) A great time was had by every one. This is just one of several mountain bike races that are being held in Fernie this September.
More trails, more signage and more competitions such as this makes Fernie a great mountain bike destination.
